Learn for your next step. Keep the knowledge for the voyage after it.
A mariner’s education does not end with one examination or one ship. Mariner Notebook brings career guidance, license study and practical shipboard knowledge into one place, so you can keep building on what you learn rather than start again every time your role changes.
Start where you are
You may be a high school student exploring your first maritime job, a Navy veteran considering the merchant fleet, an AB or QMED preparing for the next qualification, or an officer returning for an upgrade.
Start with the relevant career guidance and study path. Your current National Maritime Center evaluation and Approved to Test letter determine your actual examination assignment; this site does not issue credentials or replace official requirements.
Prepare for the next license, not just the next question
Use the relevant examination subjects, practice questions, saved explanations, lessons and flashcards to build understanding. Study Mode provides feedback while you learn. Practice results and recorded weak points help you decide what to revisit.
Your saved-answer accuracy describes the questions you have actually answered. It is not a promise that you will pass an official examination.
Carry useful knowledge from ship to ship
Equipment, operating conditions and responsibilities change. Your understanding should not disappear when you leave a vessel.
Use the notebook and equipment-manual tools to organize information you are authorized to keep, and use Troubleshooting to work through a problem with the relevant equipment context. Always follow the vessel’s procedures, manufacturer guidance and appropriate onboard authority. Do not copy confidential ship, employer or personal information without permission.
Research once. Reuse approved knowledge.
A useful explanation should not have to be researched from scratch every time someone asks the same question. Mariner Notebook’s approach is to look for existing saved material first, clearly distinguishing an exact saved answer from related information.
Our goal is to make more reviewed, reusable guidance freely available over time. As the shared library grows, more questions can be helped by knowledge that already exists, reducing repeated research.
Private notes, restricted manuals and other people’s personal information do not become public. A new AI response is not automatically a verified fact or a published explanation. Only material approved for sharing belongs in the shared resource.
Clear access. No surprise AI charge.
Begin with the public free study examples and career guidance. Other sections explain their account and access requirements.
Paid AI is separate from free saved-material search. Where paid AI is available, its shared site-credit cost and confirmation must be shown before the request. Where it is not available, it must be clearly labelled unavailable. There is one site-credit system, not a separate wallet for every task.
